Testimonials from ECEs

Using TFL Early Years SEL has definitely made an impact on our centre.

"The children have benefited from having an outlet to build on their confidence about learning and navigating their emotions. They have the ability to work through problems and with the help of the tools they are able to regulate and understand that their feelings are valid.

The educators also feel confident in using the tools to help the children navigate through their problems. The program helps take the guesswork out of teaching the children these skills. It helps guide their teaching and in turn creates less stress for the educators.

Overall, the program benefits not only the children but the educators and their families as it helps everyone understand that big emotions are going to happen but there are tools that can be used to reach a much better conclusion than a tantrum or a fight."

Why We Use TFL SEL...

With Toddlers

"In September we always have a big turnover of children as our oldest go off to junior kindergarten. This leaves room for our new families and this year they were mostly toddlers.  Three months in, our toddlers are really starting to identify their emotions through the TFL visuals we have around the room!

We are wearing the lanyards with pieces of paper and their “Kindness" cups are getting filled with amazing acts of kindness towards each other and their kind words.

We just recently had our first “Kindness" party since September and it was so well received by the children but even the families were happy to read the comments.

We have facial expression cards. We added loose parts to our playdough so they could make expression faces and we added an extra cozy corner with visuals and props.

With Preschoolers

"We just recently had a family Open House in the preschool classrooms and the families were so engaged reading the acts of kindness displayed by the preschoolers to their peers. One parent shared how their child uses the conflict tools with their older siblings.

The oldest toddlers that just moved up were familiar with the TFL language we were using, like identifying their emotions and using their words to talk about how they might do some conflict management.

In October we introduced a "jobs board" to the classrooms and they are a HUGE hit!"

We had a common time together to talk about what types of jobs we might need to have in the classroom and then we got to work creating the boards with velcro pictures of the children."

Using the "My Feelings" Children's Book Series

"There are many books available for the older preschool age when introducing emotions, however, very few for the younger group. The TFL children’s book set is excellent for the toddlers and young preschoolers. Thank you for developing this wonderful resource."

"The community loved the books. They were especially high on the books because they were simple and straightforward, not buried in a story per se."
